It'd been a quiet month at the shared Gregson-Owens household. Seamus was growing like a proverbial weed even if he was still a puppy. Work continued apace for both of them and they tended to spend the quiet down time together or with her parents or with the puppy.

They were so boring and Bod loved it that way.

Today, Bod hadn't had to work. Sundays tended to be his day off and he'd spent most of the morning out and about. He'd done the grocery shopping, gone for a walk or two into town to take care of some other odds and ends, and even helped some of their neighbors move some furniture that they'd just purchased.

He was finally making his way back up to their apartment, tired but pleased. He had a lot of reasons to be pleased but it was still so weird to be content with life in general.

He'd take it though.

Kate hadn't had to work today either – thank fuck – although her morning had been spent in Overland Park running a few errands with her mom.

But by now, she was flopped down on the couch with Seamus like a lazy ass. She'd had to go around OP, she was allowed.

"You certainly look comfortable," Bod said as he brought in several bags that he'd collected on his time out. There was food, toys for Seamus, some new pants for himself and other things to go around the house. "How is your mother?"

"She's fiiiine," Kate drawled with a lazy wave while Seamus barked his greetings then quieted down again. "I assume this whole thing with getting crap ready for when Char and her gang come visit when they're not even coming for another couple of weeks is some kind of a strategy to keep her from stessing."

"Why would she be stressing?" Bod wondered, finally closing and locking their front door so he could pad over to her. "Nerves?"

"Nerves," Kate shrugged. Seamus bounced off the sofa to run a few circles around his feet. "I think she gets nervous about the possibility of getting nervous later. It's a whole big cycle, and she's been doing so well lately."

"I think it's understandable," he said, leaning down to give her a kiss on the forehead before crouching down to give Seamus some attention. "She's worked very hard to get to where she is, though, and she'll continue to do just fine. I know it."

"Yeah, me too." She sighed as she flopped back against the couch. "But I'm still gonna whine about getting shit ready weeks in advance."

"Well, you know I'll always be available to help," he said, making a few faces at Seamus and giving him a few kisses on his ears and head. "And in the meantime, I did purchase a lot of ice cream at the store for you."

"Yaaaay!"

She was so easy. So, so easy. But really, what was the point in anything if you couldn't sometimes applaud ice cream?

"What kind?"

Bod chuckled and sat down next to her on the couch for a moment. "Chocolate. Cookies and cream. I believe I also got cookie dough and strawberry as well. I wanted to make sure I purchase you a variety."

Kate immediately leaned over to kiss his cheek. "Best boyfriend," she said. "That is awesome, thank you. Now I feel bad I didn't get you anything."

"Don't feel bad," he said and gave her cheek a kiss in return. "I got myself some new pants so that makes up for it."

With that, he chuckled and got back up because he didn't want the ice cream and other frozen foods to melt before he got them in the freezer.

"I thought it was time for some new clothes."

Kate chuckled. "I'm pretty sure I would've gotten you something better than new pants," she argued. Mostly because her buying clothes for him was limited to the occasional pair of funy boxers or a t-shirt with a slogan. "But I might hold off on judging too much until I know what kind of pants they are."

"They're mostly for work," Bod told her as he made his way into the kitchen. "Black dungarees, I believe they were called, and a pair of blue jeans. They didn't look awful when I tried them on."

"Dungarees," Kate repeated, sounding amused. "Okay. Well, as long as you're happy, dearest."

"They're supposed to be good for jobs involving manual labor!" Bod said, hearing that amusement. "I can't help it if the word is silly. As long as the pants fall apart while I'm working, they can be called whatever they want."

"I guess," Kate replied, just to be a pain. "ButI don't think you get to make fun of my bear dresses anymore."

Not that he really had. And she ws joking, anyway.

"I never make fun of your bear dresses," Bod said, poking his head out of the kitchen and making a face at her. "I like your bear dresses. You must be mistaking me for someone else, dearest."

Kate shook her head quite firmly.

"Nope, pretty sure it was you." No. "And now you'll never get to do it again, or I'm leaving you alone with your dungarees."

"Maybe I should put these cartons of ice cream in the microwave," Bod said from the kitchen. "I think that might be the wisest choice right now."

Kate gasped, mock scandalized. "You wouldn't dare!"

He wouldn't but he wasn't going to tell her that. He even flipped the microwave on (with nothing in it) just to give the illusion that he had.

"Oops, I somehow accidentally did so!"

Because what this day needed was Kate barreling into the kitchen. It was actually pretty impressive for someone who'd just been slouching on the couch.

"Ohhh my God you're not actually doing it, right?"

"Of course I'm not," Bod said, laughing at her lightning fast appearance. The ice cream was safely in the freezer. "But having you barrel in here like that was amazing!"

"You are horrible," Kate declared, even as she threw her arms around him and laughed. "I take ice cream very seriously! Especially when it's summer! You know this."
