It'd been a fairly quiet weekend that was now stretching into a fairly quiet morning for Bod. He didn't have to work today due to the holiday which meant he could be very, very lazy.

...

That wasn't going to happen, of course, but he had the opportunity, at least. He'd gotten up at a decent time and was now standing in the kitchen, clad in warm pajamas, reading the morning newspaper and sipping some warm coffee. The cold didn't bother him but that didn't mean he was going to risk hypothermia either.

Valentine's Day and his and Kate's anniversary had been a low key affair considering she'd had to work. Bod was considering gifts though, something they both could enjoy. He had a few ideas but he figured he'd have to feel her out about it first.

For now, he was leaning against the counter in the kitchen, enjoying the early morning silence. Later, he had plans to finally send some correspondence out to Silas, just to touch base, and maybe invite him to the apartment.

He'd...have to feel Kate out about that too. Hmmm.

Kate was still in bed, which wasn't all that surprising. She was awake, though! Kinda. Not enough to try really sitting up or anything. Or opening her eyes.

She rubbed a hand over them. "Bod? Are you up? Is there coffeeeee?"

All the e's were necessary.

"Yes, I'm awake," he called back. "And yes, there is coffee."

Was he going to bring her any? Well, she hadn't asked that.

She wasn't necessarily going to ask him to, anyway. "Okay," she called back, actually getting her eyes open and all. "Guess I'm getting up, then."

"You can stay in bed, if you'd like," Bod said, chuckling and putting the paper down so he could make his way back to the bedroom. "Do you want some coffee?"

"Yeeees," Kate drawled. "I didn't just ask about the coffee for fun, you know."

[therewaslife]

"It could be construed a hobby to some," Bod joked as he came into the bedroom and offered her his mug of coffee. "Careful, it's hot."

Kate pushed herself up to more of a sitting position before reaching for the mug. "I know, that's how it's supposed to be."

"It is but I just didn't want you to drop it on yourself," Bod said and settled down on the edge of the bed. "Did you sleep all right?"

Kate took a sip, cradling the mug with both hands. "Uh huh." Sprawlingly. There was no other way to sleep. "Fell asleep like the second my head hit the pillow, too."

"Do you have to go in today?" Bod asked, reaching over to rub one of her legs through the blanket.

"Nope, thank Christ," Kate sighed. "Not until tomorrow. If I don't want to, I don't really even have to get out of bed today."

She would, but just saying. She could have been a lazy ass if she'd really wanted to.

"Lucky girl," he said with a smile. "Do you have plans to get out of bed today are you going to stay here underneath the blankets?"

"I'm... pretty sure I'm gonna get up," she replied, nodding, then shrugging. "Like, 80 per cent sure. I don't know what I'm doing once I do, though. But it's a start."

"If I'm right, you'll get out of bed and transfer yourself to the sofa where you'll stay for hours," he teased lightly.

"Sounds plausible," Kate replied easily, because it did. It was a comfy sofa, she couldn't resist the allure! "What about you?" she asked. "You have big, non-sofa plans?"

[therewaslife]

"I don't know yet," Bod said, shrugging. "I'm going to write Silas a letter this afternoon, I think, but those were my only solidified plans."

"Still more than I have," Kate noted. "Gonna fill Silas in on all of your important graveyard goings-on?"

[therewaslife]

"Something like that," he said and smiled. "And I might go get your Valentine's Day slash anniversary gift too."

[vanillajello]

Well, that was definitely an easy way to get Kate interested. "Ooh?" she asked, raising her eyebrows at him over the coffee mug. "Intriguing."

[therewaslife]

"It might take a few hours to get," he said, hoping to up that intrigue. "And, unfortunately, you'd have to stay here while I go get it."

Curious, Kate?

But of course!

"Seriously?" Yeah, she was trying to figure it out, now. "That's almost cruel."

[therewaslife]

"I could always wait until next Valentine's Day," Bod teased coyly. "And you will never figure it out."

[vanillajello]

"Don't say that!" she exclaimed. "You know that only makes me want to try harder to figure it out. Like, what could take that long to get? Something to eat?"

"Something."

He wasn't going to tell you, Kate.

"You're not going to tell me, are you?"

Smart girl!

"It's like that time you got me my ring."
