Bod could have easily stayed around the cottage for the entire time he and Kate were there but he knew there were amazing things to see all over the Big Island. And while he could have easily called for a taxi to get them to a few other places around the Big Island, he'd convinced Kate to go for a hike on the promise that the view would be brilliant and that they'd have the chance to see go swimming on a black sand beach. That had been enough to convince her so they were on their way up to Pololu Valley Lookout

Bod was carrying their bag of things on his back but made sure Kate was walking in front of him in case she slipped or needed help because of her hand. Everything seemed to be going just fine though and Bod knew they were almost at the summit where they could enjoy the sun, eat, and take pictures before heading back down to the black sand beach.

"We're almost there," Bod said, stepping up behind her and resting a hand on her back. "It'll be worth it, I promise. You can get a suntan."

"I could've gotten a suntan right in our front yard, Bod," Kate had to point out, glancing back at him. It wasn't quite grumbling, but every upward step had made her question more and more just how he'd managed to convince her into this.

Damn him and his adorable ways and ability to persuade her. "How much further?"

Bod grinned at the use of 'our front yard' and pushed harder against her back to help her up the last few feet.

"Look up," Bod said, glancing over her shoulder. "Can you see more sky than earth and rock? It's not far at all. We should be coming up there any moment now. Relax."

"I hate you," Kate informed him petulantly, if not seriously, as she kept walking. "No one's ever made me hike before."

"You just loved me yesterday," Bod laughed, reaching to take her hand and pull her up the last few feet. "I promise, you'll enjoy what's at the top. This is the only time we'll have to go uphill today."

"I'm holding you to that promise," she replied, letting him tug her along. "Otherwise I'm pushing you down something."

"Come on," Bod encouraged, smiling widely when the uphill climb turned into grass flat land which signaled the end of the hike. That, in turn, meant they were now able to see the panoramic and insanely amazing view.

"See?" he asked, gesturing to the gorgeous view with his arm. "See, this was worth it."

Kate wiped sweat off her forehead with her free hand before she actually looked around.

And yeah, it was kind of an eye-widening view. "... Okay, wow."

"See?" Bod asked, pleased by that reaction. He pointed to the horses that were grazing off in the distance and then down towards the black sand beach at the bottom. "Amazing, isn't it? Do you regret the hike now?"

"My feet do," she replied with a very brief glance at him. It really didn't last because he was currently not the most spectacular thing to look at. "I don't. This view is insane."

"It is," he said and took the backpack off his back so he could rest it near his feet. "I happened to come across it in one of the brochures you'd picked up. And while suntanning in the yard was tempting, I thought this wouldn't be a view passed up."

"It's only Tuesday, we can sunbathe in the yard as much as we want, still," Kate noted, still grinning at the view. "You have my camera somewhere in the bag, right?"

"Yes, ma'am," he said, kneeling down and pulling her camera out of one of the pockets of the bag. That got passed to her before Bod took out a bottle of water and drank few big gulps of it.

And Kate took a picture of him doing that (because she could!) before focusing on documenting the view and the faraway horses and everything.

It seemed the suffering of her feet had been forgotten for the time being.

And Bod was lamenting the chance he missed at posing for her. Actually, he wasn't but he did like that she'd come over to his side of things and was now enjoying Pololu Valley as much as he hoped she would.

"It's quite far from Kansas, isn't it?" he asked, passing her the water.

"Most nice things are," Kate snorted as she took the bottle and proceeded to take a few nice big gulps, herself. "But yeah. We don't have anything even remotely like this back home."

"You can show your aunt and make her jealous since she can probably barely move right about now," Bod said, picking the bag up and hefting it over a shoulder. "Did you want to find a good place to sit and rest for awhile?"

"I would very much like that, yes," Kate nodded, already glancing around for such a spot. "And maybe some food, too."

"I've got a blanket in the bag and food tucked away as well," he replied, smiling and heading closer to one of the cliffs. "There's a black sand beach down below. I'll try to get a good view of that."

"Awesome." It was an easy judgment to make. She followed easily alongside him. "Have I mentioned yet how glad I am we decided to do this whole Hawaii trip now?"

Many, many times.

"You might have mentioned it a time or two," Bod said, letting his shoulder bump against hers. He smiled over at her. "I'm glad too. Considering you'll be leaving soon, Portalocity's going to be seeing a lot me so they should get used to it."

"And me, too, probably," Kate replied, nudging his arm back. "You don't think I'll just stay away, do you?"

"I don't," he answered, taking them to close to the edge of the cliff before stopping and dropping the bag again so he could pull out the blanket. "I don't think you leaving should stop our dates, either. We can just meeting in different places."

"Exactly," she said, smugly pleased about that, as she watched him get their little picnic ready. "We can basically go just abot anywhere."

"Indeed, we can," Bod said, settling the blanket down before gesturing her to sit. "I can visit Kansas, you can visit the island and we can go anywhere in between. We can have a date at a museum!"

Yes, of course Bod would think of that as a date.

Kate snickered as she plopped herself down onto the blanket. "I think that depends on the museum."
